Stephens seems too good for Sevastova

Defending champion Sloane Stephens’ form at the US Open looks ominous for the field and she should have no issues against Anastasija Sevastova in the last eight.

Stephens to win 2-0 @ 10/11

The American was somewhat of a surprise winner 12 months ago but returns to Flushing Meadows a much more confident player, having proved her versatility with a final appearance at the French Open.

Straight sets wins over two-time Grand Slam winner Victoria Azarenka and Elise Mertens show how well she is going and she will be looking to continue that run against Sevastova.

The Latvian battled past Elina Svitolina in the fourth round but has needed three sets three times in four outings and maybe starting to tire.

Stephens also has the psychological edge, having beaten Sevastova at this stage 12 months ago and after winning comfortably when the pair met in the recent Rogers Cup, back the champion to march on.

Del Potro to win 3-1 @ 5/2

The 2009 champion Juan Martin del Potro and home favourite John Isner meet in the men’s quarter-finals in what looks set to be a tight contest.

Injuries have robbed Delpo of a large chunk of his career but he is back playing good tennis again, while Isner has had arguably the best season of his career, winning in Miami and reaching the semi-finals of Wimbledon.

The American has a great serve but can struggle against players who match him from the back of the court and are superior on the ground and just like at SW19 against Kevin Anderson, looks set to fall short again.
