Frankie Dettori has given his seal of approval to the news that “filly of a lifetime” Enable will be racing again in 2018.
Owner Prince Khalid Abdullah on Monday confirmed the daughter of Nathaniel will be back for a four-year-old campaign, the centrepiece of which is likely to be a tilt at retaining her crown in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
Enable has sparkled throughout the season and was once more peerless as she made it five straight Group One wins by taking Europe’s premier middle-distance contest at Chantilly earlier this month.
In doing so she provided Dettori with a record-breaking fifth career success in the Arc and the veteran Italian is already excited about what will be in store for their partnership in 2018.
“I’m very pleased and grateful to Prince Khalid for keeping her in training because, to me, she is a filly of a lifetime,” said the jockey.
“What she has achieved this year has been nothing short of sensational. I’m looking forward to having her back next year so we can have another crack at going for the Arc and all the other big races.
Dettori has no qualms in regards to just where Enable sits in terms of the great fillies he has ridden in his career.
“She is the best filly I have ridden. She won five Group Ones, including two Classics, and she didn’t just win them, she won them amazingly,” he added.
“I think the racing fans will look forward to seeing her race next year, including me, as I’m her biggest fan.
“I didn’t have to say very much. John Gosden knows the filly better than I do and he spoke to Prince Khalid and came to the decision.”
Gosden and Dettori will be chasing more big-race success at Ascot on British Champions Day later this month, with Cracksman currently the 3/1 favourite to win the Qipco Champion Stakes.
