Welbeck up for the Cup

Danny Welbeck can net in the Carabao Cup again for Arsenal, while Manchester City should prove their class in the last 16 this week.

Danny Welbeck to score first in Arsenal v Blackpool @ 7/2

A drop in the League Cup’s popularity has resulted in the creation of competition ‘specialists’.

Daniel Sturridge is one such player who has pressed his claims by scoring in the event over the years and now Welbeck may be about to do the same.

The former Manchester United star scored twice (including the opener) in the previous round’s 3-1 victory over Championship Brentford and is now set to lead the line against a side a further division below.

The England international also has two goals in his three Europa League games this season, including the only one in last week’s win over Sporting Lisbon, and so 7/2 about him netting the first in this one looks fair.

Manchester City to win both halves v Fulham @ 10/13

City have won both halves in five of their last seven games, as well as four of their five domestic matches at the Etihad Stadium.

Now they face the leakiest defence in English football and while Pep Guardiola is sure to make changes, the side he puts out should still be able to pick holes in whatever backline Slavisa Jokanovic picks out of his hat.

Guardiola’s peripheral stars secured a 3-0 victory at Oxford in the last round (winning both halves) and, playing at home to a side with much greater concerns than this tie right now, a similar scoreline can be envisaged.

Derby & draw in double-chance market v Chelsea @ 13/5

Having already beaten Manchester United at Old Trafford, it is surprising to see Derby priced at 11/1 to win this game in 90 minutes.

The Rams needed penalties for that victory in the last round, although they were only seconds away from winning it in normal time.

With a Premier League title bid to sustain and another Europa League game looming, Chelsea are sure to make several changes and Derby, who will be allowed to field Chelsea loanees Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori, are equipped to take advantage if they perform as they did at Old Trafford.

They showed why they are sixth in the Championship that night and 13/5 about them in the double-chance market looks the way to go.
