Slovakia can frustrate dull England

Gareth Southgate

England’s performance on Friday against Malta was so dreary that it is possible Slovakia will hold Gareth Southgate’s team to a goalless draw in their World Cup qualifier at Wembley.

Three late goals put the gloss on a sleep-inducing display by England who would be overtaken by Slovakia in Group F if Jan Kozak’s side win Monday’s match.

Slovakia are no mugs and are more than capable of drawing 0-0 at 15/2 at Wembley while they are 9/2 to keep a clean sheet in the match.

Scotland revived their own hopes of reaching next summer’s World Cup finals in Russia by producing one of their best displays under Gordon Strachan in the 3-0 victory in Lithuania.

They often have difficulty breaking down the European minnows so it may be tempting to look at 31/4 on them struggling to a 1-0 win against Malta while Ryan Fraser is good value at 7/1 to score the first goal.

The other match in the group sees Slovenia entertain Lithuania and the home side are 27/4 to win the game from behind.

In Group C a draw at 41/20 would suit Northern Ireland against Czech Republic as they move closer to qualifying for Russia while Mesut Ozil is 29/20 to score at any time for Germany against Norway.

In Group E Montenegro are currently second and will enhance their qualification prospects by beating Romania by one goal at 14/5, while Denmark are 4/5 to keep a clean sheet in Armenia.

Finally group leaders Poland take on winless Kazakhstan who have already conceded 19 goals in their first seven qualifiers. The Poles are available at 20/67 to win Monday’s match by two goals or more.
