Monday magic for the Citizens

Sergio Aguero

Stoke City have slumped this season and are likely to struggle when Manchester City come to town on Monday evening.

The Citizens rotated heavily in Wednesday’s shock Champions League defeat to Basel and Pep Guardiola will be demanding a response from his troops.

Opposite number Paul Lambert has stabilised the Potters, losing just one of their six games under his tutelage but only one of those was a victory.

That leaves them a point adrift of safety and 12/1 for a home win perhaps tells its own story, while a third straight draw for the Potters is 11/2.

With such a gulf in class, Lambert may bring Ryan Shawcross and Peter Crouch back into the fold but even their physicality and experience might not be enough.

This is a uniquely brilliant City team and they will be keen to dazzle in the Potteries, with the Premier League title now well in their sights.

20/83 for an away victory highlights the difference between the two sides and Man City have a fine record against Stoke, winning 19 of their 21 last meetings, including 7-2 earlier in the season and 4-1 on their last trip to Staffordshire.

Over 4.5 goals seems to be a theme between these sides and that outcome is 27/10 but Stoke’s defensive improvement means over 3.5 might be more realistic at 6/5.

With the away win so short, it may well be worth looking at other markets, most notably the scorer options.

Sergio Aguero scored twice in this fixture last year and with him likely to get the nod ahead of Gabriel Jesus, the Argentine is 13/5 to score two or more.
