Magpies can edge low-scoring clash

Rafa Benitez

Newcastle United have an outstanding opportunity to make it four Premier League victories in a row when they visit Brighton on Sunday.

Former Magpies boss Chris Hughton has a difficult job stopping Brighton sliding back to the Championship this term, particularly after they lost at Bournemouth in their last match, another side that looks set for a long battle to avoid the drop.

Rafa Benitez’s team have secured victories against West Ham United, Swansea City and Stoke City to move into the top four and, although they are unlikely to keep up their push for a European place, these are exciting times at St James’ Park.

Their last two wins have been by the narrowest of margins and the Magpies are 29/10 to triumph once again by one goal with Ayoze Perez 15/2 to score the first goal and Matt Ritchie 29/10 to net at any time.

Goals look set to be a problem for the Seagulls as, aside from the impressive 3-1 victory over West Brom, they have only managed to find the net once in their other four top-flight encounters.

A 1-0 victory for Newcastle at 6/1 looks good value against a Brighton side that can be backed at 11/10 to be relegated this season.

Last term Newcastle did the double over Brighton, who completed the permanent signing of Tim Krul from the north-east side earlier this week, as both teams clinched promotion from the Championship, winning 2-0 on Tyneside and 2-1 at the Amex Stadium.

Sunday’s match looks set to be a low-scoring affair so odds of 33/20 on there being under 1.5 goals in the match should be taken up while a clean sheet for the visitors is available at 37/20.
