This time last season Mo Salah was not being mentioned as a possible Premier League top goalscorer, but the Liverpool striker went on to pick up the Golden Boot and there could be another surprise winner of the accolade this term.
The Egypt international found the net an incredible 32 times in the Premier League last season and is 5/1 to finish at the top of the pile again.
Harry Kane, available at 5/2, scored two goals fewer than Salah and won the Golden Boot in 2014-15 and 2015-16, as well as being the top scorer at this summer’s World Cup.
However, doubts persist about his fitness and it may be worth looking at Manchester City to find this season’s top marksman.
Jesus 11/1 – Premier League Top Goalscorer
Sergio Aguero (8/1) won the award in 2014-15, when he scored 26 goals, and he found the net 21 times last season, but City boss Pep Guardiola appears to prefer Gabriel Jesus as his main attacking threat.
The Brazilian managed to score 13 top-flight goals last season despite missing January and February because of injury.
He did not enjoy the best of times in front of goal at the World Cup although in a free-scoring City team he can improve his goal return.
Aubameyang 13/2 – Premier League Top Goalscorer
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a proven scorer and could get amongst the goals in Unai Emery’s new-look Arsenal side.
Unlike many of the other leading contenders, he enjoyed a long summer break as he was not involved in the World Cup and may be fresher than some of his rivals.
Romelu Lukaku showed at the World Cup that he can be a world-beater, performing superbly when Belgium knocked Brazil out.
However, his touch deserted him in the semi-final loss to France and he needs to find more consistency if he is to be talked about as a possible Golden Boot contender, and so 15/2 does not appear to offer good value.
