Deadly Lukaku can top the charts

It may have been wise to back Harry Kane in the Premier League’s top goalscorer market at the end of August but all the signs now suggest Romelu Lukaku will win the accolade.

Famously Kane can’t find the net in the first month of the season but, after failing to score in the first three top-flight matches, he has six goals to his name in the last four matches, with braces against Everton, West Ham and Huddersfield.

However, Kane, who also grabbed a hat-trick in last week’s Champions League victory at Apoel Nicosia, is now only 8/5 in the betting.

Lukaku is 5/2 but that could be the better bet as the Belgium international already has seven Premier League goals to his name following his summer transfer to Manchester United from Everton.

The 24-year-old has made 12 appearances for club and country so far this season and incredibly has only failed to score in one of those matches, United’s 2-0 victory against Leicester City in August when he missed a penalty.

Lukaku will always get plenty of chances in this United side and Everton’s problems in the first two months of the season show how crucial he was to Ronald Koeman’s outfit.

Everton have only managed to score four goals in their first seven Premier League matches this term.

Alvaro Morata (7/1) and Sergio Aguero (9/1) will both score plenty of goals this season but the fact that they are currently injured means they are unlikely to overtake Lukaku or Kane in the scoring charts so it may be worth considering Gabriel Jesus at 7/1 as an outside bet.

The 20-year-old already has four league goals to his name and, in Aguero’s absence, will have plenty of chances to add to his tally for rampant Manchester City in the next few weeks.
