Cardiff City will look for more valuable points in their bid to stay up this season when they host out-of-form Wolves in the Premier League on Friday night.
The Bluebirds are many people’s tips to be among the three teams to go straight back down to the Championship and, after a tough start to the season, it was looking bleak for Neil Warnock’s side.
Just two points from their first eight games left the Welsh outfit firmly in the bottom three but there have been signs of life in the past month, with wins over Fulham and Brighton, and they may fancy their chances of getting one over last season’s Championship winners in this game.
Cardiff were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Everton last weekend but, like the similar defeats by the same scoreline at Wembley against Spurs in October and Leicester at the start of the month, they were somewhat unlucky not to get anything out of the game.
Warnock will be targeting certain fixtures in which he knows his side can do damage in – usually against teams around them in the table – and will believe Wolves is a scalp they can also claim.
Nuno Espirito Santo received plenty of plaudits for the way his side began the season and the fact Wolves still sit 11th with 16 points from 13 games is testament to their impressive early form back in the top flight.
However, they have not won since seeing off Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on October 6 and have been beaten in three of their last four, with the chastening 2-0 home defeat against Huddersfield last time out the most worrying.
The Bluebirds are direct and play to their strengths and will look to unsettle Wolves from the outset. The two teams know each other well from their skirmishes in the second tier last term and Cardiff will be eager to prove they have what it takes to stay up, possibly at the expense of the Black Country outfit, who will be concerned they could enter freefall with another defeat.
