Chelsea likely to be too good for Arsenal

The EFL Cup presents a genuine chance of silverware for both Chelsea and Arsenal and it promises to be an entertaining encounter when the pair meet in the first leg of their semi-final on Wednesday.

The Blues struggled to a 0-0 FA Cup draw at Norwich on Saturday but it was even worse for the Gunners as they went down 4-2 at Nottingham Forest in the competition on Sunday.

Both Antonio Conte and Arsene Wenger made a raft of changes at the weekend but know their opponents this week very well, having played out a blockbuster 2-2 draw in the Premier League last week.

Strangely, Chelsea have failed to beat Arsenal in their last four meetings, including last season’s FA Cup final. However, they have not lost at home to the Gunners since 2011.

Arsenal are struggling on the road, winning only three of their 12 domestic away games this term, and again seem to be floundering under Wenger. The Frenchman will once again be in the stands on Wednesday, as he serves the second match of his touchline ban.

While the Frenchman will select as strong a squad as possible, injuries are biting him at the moment, while Conte is likely to pick a first-choice XI.

Alvaro Morata is likely to be one of those to come in and having missed a hatful of chances in last week’s encounter, is 1/1 to score at anytime.

Therefore, it is hard to look past a home win but with the attacking talent on show, that outcome and both to score seems likely at 2/1.
