Derby County may have missed the chance to virtually secure their place in the Championship play-offs on Wednesday when they drew at Swansea but they can confirm their spot in the top six ahead of Middlesbrough and Bristol City on the last day of the campaign.
The Rams, 7/1 to be promoted, face a West Brom side on Sunday that already know they will be involved in the play-offs and may name a weakened team for the encounter.
Derby to win by one goal @ 11/5
Frank Lampard’s outfit eased to a 4-1 victory at The Hawthorns in October and, although it is certain to be a nervy occasion, Derby can pick up the three points they require this weekend.
Derby have not been in the Premier League since their disastrous 2007/08 campaign when they won one game and picked up 11 points but they have been one of the Championship’s most consistent teams in the last few years and this will be their seventh top-10 finish in a row.
Middlesbrough to win 1-0 @ 23/4
Middlesbrough’s season has been anything but consistent and it is incredible that they still have a chance of being involved in the play-offs considering they lost six games in a row in March and early April.
Tony Pulis’ team, 20/1 to be promoted, have responded by winning five of their last six matches and they should beat relegated Rotherham on Sunday, although it may be too little too late.
Despite being seventh heading into the final weekend only three Championship sides have scored fewer goals than Boro’s 47 although only promoted Sheffield United have a better defensive record.
Bristol City win and both to score @ 27/10
A 13-match unbeaten run over the winter months propelled Bristol City from 14th to fifth but, until the midweek victory at Millwall, they had drifted out of the play-off picture recently.
They need to win at Hull City to have any chance of sneaking into sixth and, although they should be able to pick up three points against a Tigers side that have secured just one point from their last four games, it may not be enough.
