United to avoid Moscow misery

Manchester United may have to be patient but Jose Mourinho’s team have the quality to beat CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Wednesday.

CSKA are very tight defensively and secured a fine 2-1 victory at Benfica a fortnight ago so a 1-0 victory for United at 5/1 seems tempting.

Benfica will be hoping to bounce back following their CSKA setback when they visit a FC Basel side that have lost three of their first nine Swiss Super League matches. However, a home victory at 23/10 may be worth backing.

In Group B, Paris Saint Germain should make home advantage count when they entertain a Bayern Munich side that have not been at their best recently. PSG look good value at 13/1 to win the match 2-0.

The match between Anderlecht and Celtic looks set to have a major bearing on who will be playing in the Europa League after Christmas.

The Belgian side appear to have the edge over Brendan Rodgers’ outfit and are available at 23/20 to win the encounter although it may be worth having a punt on Scott Sinclair at 2/1 to score at any time in Brussels.

Atletico Madrid play their first home Champions League match at their Estadio Metropolitano ground when Chelsea visit the Spanish capital.

Diego Simeone’s team are 23/20 to mark the occasion by beating the Blues while the visitors are 23/10 to keep a clean sheet in the match.

Qarabag may have lost 6-0 to Chelsea in their group opener but are a different proposition at home and can be backed at 15/4 to secure a draw against Roma while in Group D Juventus are 5/1 to ease to a 2-0 win against Olympiakos.

Finally, Barcelona can edge to victory by a one-goal margin at Sporting Lisbon at odds of 3/1.
