Brighton are a team in freefall and things are unlikely to get any better when they head to Wolves today.
Two straight home defeats mean the Seagulls start the weekend just two points clear of the relegation places.
Including their 1-0 FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester City, Chris Hughton’s side have now lost five in a row and to add to their woes, have failed to score in that time.
Wolves suffered their own FA Cup hangover after losing 3-2 to Watford as they went down 3-1 at Southampton but are solid at home and look primed to take advantage of a team who have gone off the boil at the worst possible moment.
While Brighton have lost momentum, Serie A’s Bologna have picked it up and collecting 13 points from the last 18 available has helped them climb out of the bottom three.
Today they host a Sampdoria side who still hold hopes of a European finish and who will be buoyed by last week’s 2-0 win over Genoa in the Derby della Lanterna. Their focus may be on helping Fabio Quagliarella win the Capocannoniere title and look for him to add to his 22 goals this season but Bologna’s run of three straight home victories suggests it could be their day again at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.
