Alexander Zverev was rated as the most likely man to challenge Rafael Nadal for the title before the French Open began but his bid for a maiden Grand Slam crown may well be ended by Dominic Thiem in the quarter-finals today.
Thiem to win 4/7
Zverev has been dragged into five sets in each of his last three matches in Paris and it remains to be seen just how much he has left in the tank after those three epics.
Thiem’s last three matches have all been four set encounters and in total he’s spent around three hours less than his last eight opponent on court in the tournament.
Zverev, the second seed, did claim a Madrid Open final win over the Austrian in the build-up to the French Open but Thiem leads their head-to-head on clay, having won the other three ATP clashes the pair have contested on the surface.
Thiem to win 3-1 3/1
Zverev had been in incredible form prior to the French Open and although his level may have dropped a bit at the Grand Slam event itself he should still be able to give Thiem a scare today.
Thiem won’t have this showdown all his own way and Zverev should be able to take a set, so the 3/1 on a 3-1 win for the seventh seed looks a good option in the set betting market.
