Let’s hear it for Global Applause

Now and again we get the chance to move away from football and tennis and today’s tip comes from racing where Global Applause can live up to his name in the 15:00 at Doncaster.

Global Applause to win @ 2/1

It is, of course, the first day of the St Leger Festival and today’s feature race, the Scarbrough Stakes, sees a decent field go over five furlongs.

Trainer Robert Cowell won this race in 2010 with Prohibit and came back for more 12 months ago when Encore D’Or took the prize.

Of his two entries this year, Global Applause looks the one to beat, having triumphed last time out Sandown and is lightly raced, with this just his fourth outing of the season.

Ryan Moore may have chosen to renew his partnership with Encore D’Or but Gerald Mosse is an excellent man to have in the saddle and can pilot him to glory at Town Moor.

Spirit Of Appin to win @ 5/2

There’s more racing for the second tip of the day and Spirit Of Appin can continue her winning run in the 16:05 at Doncaster.

After near misses on her first two runs, the three-year-old is coming good for Brian Meehan, winning at Lingfield last month before doubling up on her Handicap debut at Ffos Las.

The feeling is the handicapper is yet to truly get her mark so with a bit to spare in weight, and the impressive Oisin Murphy on board, she can make it a hat-trick here.
