England take on Costa Rica in their final World Cup warm-up fixture this evening and they should be able to head to Russia on the back of a victory.
Manager Gareth Southgate has revealed he will rotate his squad from the team that overcame Nigeria on Saturday as he wants every member of his 23-man World Cup party to have a “significant amount of game time” before the tournament begins.
The players that take to the field against Costa Rica will see this as an opportunity to stake a claim for a starting spot for the World Cup opener against Tunisia, and England should have the quality to win with some room to spare regardless of who Southgate selects.
The Central Americans did claim a 3-0 win over Northern Ireland in their last outing but as the Three Lions have home advantage and a much stronger squad than their home nations neighbours, they should be able to secure a fairly comfortable victory this evening.
Vardy was left on the bench against Nigeria and given Southgate’s rotation comments I’m anticipating a start for the Leicester striker at Elland Road.
With seven goals in 21 caps his international scoring record isn’t particularly impressive, but he should get a few chances against Costa Rica and looks a big price at 15/4 to open the scoring.
